JHC offers a wide range of conductive tapes and associated laminates to provide an economic EMI shielding solution for a variety of applications.
It has also been long known that the constituent conductive metals used in the manufacture of these fabrics, i.e. silver and copper, are anti-microbial in that it does not support the growth of bacteria on the surface of the fabric.
As the Covid-19 virus began to spread Worldwide, Statex investigated how their product could assist in the protection against the virus. They enlisted the assistance of Hohenstein Laboratories GmbH & Co. KG and Eurovir Hygiene-Labor GmbH to test the copper fabric products to see if they were resistant, not only to bacteria, but to viruses.
The results were extremely positive – in that the copper fabric tested did not support the growth of the virus tested (transmissible Gastroenteritis Virus of Swine (TGEV-Coronavirus)).
The tests indicated that the virus did not survive longer than 1 hour following exposure to the fabric surface. In comparison, it has been reported that Coronavirus can remain active on other surfaces for up to 72 hours. Further tests are being carried out to investigate how many minutes it takes before the virus is no longer detectable. Learn More...
